Splinks for May 13th - May 19th

Hide and Seek
Play “Hide and Seek” in the dark, same as regular “Hide and Seek” only at night with all the lights out in the house. After each one has had a turn being the hider and the seeker, turn on a light (or even better, light a candle) and share a snack.
Ask:
What did you like about the game?
Read John 8:12—“ Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’”
How is Jesus like a light? (He shows us the way to live; He can help people find the way to God; He can show people the way out of the darkness of sin, etc.)

Lights, Camera, Action!
Items Needed: simple props—a blindfold and a cup or bowl
Bible
Act out this week's Bible story as you read it from John 8:1-12; 35-38 (if you have older children, you can add the rest of the chapter about the Pharisees' interview with the blind man).
Assign parts: Narrator (who will read the story from the Bible as the others act out what is read)
Jesus
Blind man (needs blindfold and a cup or bowl)
Disciple(s)
Add neighbors and Pharisees if you have enough family members.
After acting out the story, ask:
How do you think you would feel if you had been born blind? (Cut off from the world, alone, sad, etc.)
How did Jesus change this man's life? (He was able to see, he believed in Jesus and worshiped Him, etc.)
People who don't believe in Jesus are walking in darkness (John 8:12). Even though we were not physically blind, we were walking in darkness and were sinners. We couldn't see the right way to go without Jesus. Just as the blind man needed someone to help him walk and find his way, we all need Jesus to show us the way to Heaven and how to live.

Blind Relay
Items Needed: blindfolds (one for each family member)
White board and marker (or poster board and marker)
Run a blindfolded relay to write the words of the Bible verse (John 8:12) on the white board.
Tie a blindfold on each person and line him or her up behind a starting point away from the white board. Give the first person in line the marker and instruct him to run to the board and write the first word of the verse. He must then run back and give the marker to the next person who will write the next word of the verse. He should then go to the back of the line. (If younger ones need help, whisper the next word in their ear when they are about to run to the board.)
When the verse is completed, take off the blindfolds and TRY to read the verse. Erase the words and write the verse on the board; say it several times together.
Just as it was hard to write the verse with blindfolds on, it is hard to live without Jesus. He helps us know the right way to go.
