Splinks for August 8th - August 14th
1
Do They Go Together?
Play a simple game, taking turns and letting each one pick things that go together (socks and shoes, baseball and bat, salt and pepper, macaroni and cheese, etc.)
After you've made some matches, ask your kids if God's love and God's anger go together. Why or why not?
Most of the time we only want to talk about God's love (especially with our kids), but it is God's passionate love for us that causes His hatred of sin and His wrath. God hates sin because sin separates Him from the people He made and loves. It is right to be angry at sin and the devil (who tries to harm and even destroy the people God loves). God hates sin so much that some day He will finally say it is enough and the devil will be punished forever in hell (a place made for the devil and his followers).
2
Hide and Seek
Play hide and seek in the backyard to illustrate God's protection from wrath. Designate a specific point (a tree or shed or whatever) as a "safe" place. When anyone gets to the safe place, he is safe and cannot be caught. Choose one person to be it who will hide his eyes and count to 20. Everyone else should find a hiding place. The object of the game is to get to the safe place. (Parent, let your little ones get to the safe place as often as possible.)
When tired of the game, sit on the grass and talk.
Ask:
How did it feel to make it to the safe place without getting caught? (good, relieved, happy, etc.)
How did it feel to make it to the safe place without getting caught? (good, relieved, happy, etc.)
How is God our safe place? (when we accept Jesus, we don't have to be punished for our sins, He saves us from hell, He will bring us to heaven to live with Him forever)
Some day God will judge the earth and punish those who would not come to Him for salvation.
John 3:36 says, "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
John 3:36 says, "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
God is a safe place for His children. He saved Noah and his family before He destroyed the world with a flood. He will save His children (those who have received Christ) before He judges the world.
Say a prayer of thanks to God for being a safe place.
3
Escape Plan
Devise a fire escape plan for your family. Tell them what they should do in the case of fire. Assure them you want each one to be safe and not be hurt just in case there is a fire. Practice the drill a few times.
Ask:
Why is important to have a fire escape plan? (So we can all get out of the house in case of fire and be safe)
Why is important to have a fire escape plan? (So we can all get out of the house in case of fire and be safe)
God has made a plan so we can be safe. God is holy and must punish sin. When Jesus died on the cross, He took the punishment for sin. If we accept Jesus into our lives, we will not have to suffer the punishment for our sin.
Say a prayer thanking Jesus for suffering the punishment for our sin and making a way for us to be with God in heaven.
