Messiah - Anointed One
Tell your kids about their name (why you gave them that name, who they are named for, what their name means, etc.). There are many online sites to find a name's meaning.
For the next 12 weeks, students using the D6 curriculum will be studying the different names of Jesus and their meanings. Names in Bible times had special meanings.
Jesus had many names and each one describes something about Him. His name, Messiah, means, "anointed one." In Bible times, God sent a prophet (one who speaks for God) to "anoint" (pour oil—not like car oil) on the head of the man God had chosen to be the king. Jesus was the anointed one chosen by God.

Is It THAT?
Do a "mind-reading trick." Leave the room and ask one of the kids to choose an item somewhere in the room. You will come back and pretend to read your child's mind. Your partner will point to different items in the room and each time will say, "Is it this?" (Have it pre-arranged with your partner to say, “Is it that?” when he comes to the chosen item.)
Go out of the room again and let another kid choose an item. Each time, your partner will say, "Is it this?" when pointing to several different items. When he points to the chosen item, he will say, "Is it that?" which will cue you that this is the right item and you will reply, "Yes." (Hopefully, they won't catch on for a while.)
After you've played several times, tell them that this really is a trick and that you can't really read their minds. No one can read someone else's mind or tell the future. We can make a good guess about what is going to happen but we don't really know.
Hundreds of years before Jesus came to earth, men such as Isaiah, Micah, and Malachi wrote in the Bible the name of the city in which Jesus would be born, what His name would be, what He would do while on earth, and many other predictions.
Did you know that these predictions came true?
How could these men know these things BEFORE they happened?
How could these men know these things BEFORE they happened?
Only God knows the future and He told these men what to write. This is one way we can know that Jesus was not an ordinary man, but was God's
Chosen One.

____ Days Until Christmas!
Take time each day to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. See below for an example of a Countdown to Christmas calendar. Check it off each day or cut it apart and make it into a paper chain (keeping the days in order). Put both ends together and staple each day's suggestion to the next one. Pull off one each day and do the activity together. (This will also show how many days are left until Christmas; when all the links are gone, it will be Christmas!)
