» Walking in the LIght
1
Take the Blindfold Off
Blindfold one child. Make a simple obstacle course (pillows, chairs, tables, etc.). Ask the child to go through the obstacle course with the blindfold on. Then take off the blindfold and let the child walk through the same obstacle course.
Take turns blindfolding each one and rearranging the obstacle course and letting them walk it with the blindfold on and then off.
Ask:
Which was easier - with the blindfold ON or OFF?
Of course, it was easier to go through all those obstacles when you could see where you are going.
Read 1 John 1:5, 7 (This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.)
The Bible says that walking with God is like walking in the light - being able to see where you are going. We can know the right way to go and not be confused as if we were walking in darkness of sin.
2
Finding the Light
Play hide-n-seek in the dark. (If you have little ones, pair them with an adult or older child.) Choose one person to be the finder and give him a flashlight. Turn out all the lights and carefully hide while the finder counts to 50. The finder can use the flashlight as he hunts for the others. When each one is found, he can lead them back to home base- using the flashlight. Take turns being the finder.
How did you feel hiding in the dark? (afraid, scared, unsure, etc.)
How would you feel if you lived in darkness all the time - no light? (afraid, scared, unsure, not safe, etc.)
The Bible compares living in sin to walking in darkness. When we invite Jesus in our lives, it is like walking in the light. (1 John 1:7)
He takes away our sin and we can follow Him and know the right way to go.
3
"How does the nightlight make you feel?"
Turn on the nightlight at bedtime and ask:
How does the nightlight make you feel? (safe, better, able to get around, etc.)
How does the nightlight help you? (shows me the way to go, shines a light on the place I walk, comforts me so the darkness isn't so bad, etc.)
Read Psalm 119:105 ( Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.)
How is God's Word like a light? (it shows us the way to go, it helps us know the way to heaven, it comforts us when we're sad, etc.)
