Family Tree
Items Needed: Paper and pencils or markers
Make a simple family tree. Put the names of your grandparents, your parents, your names, and your children’s names in descending order. Also add your siblings. Many baby books or family Bibles have a family tree in them.
Students using the D6 curriculum learned about the first family tree. After Cain killed his brother, Abel, God gave Adam and Eve another son, Seth. The descendants of Seth followed and loved God. One of his descendants, Enoch, walked with God and did not even have to die. God took him straight to heaven.
The descendants of Cain followed his bad example and walked AWAY from God. They did NOT follow God and did mean and wrong things.
Say a prayer asking God to help your family follow His way.

Passing Along The "Torch"
Item Needed: A stick or similar item that can be passed in a race
Run a relay race with your kids. Divide the family into two equal teams. (If you have an uneven number, allow one person to run the course twice.) Explain that the first person must run the marked out course, give the stick to the second person in line who will run the course, and continue until every member has run the race. Stress the importance of running with the stick and carefully passing it to the next person.
After the race, congratulate the winners and ask:
What would have happened if you dropped the stick? (it would take extra time to stop and pick it up)
What would have happened if you dropped the stick? (it would take extra time to stop and pick it up)
Why was it important to carefully pass the stick to the next person? (so you could win the race)
Read Hebrews 12:1. (Run the race that is set before us.)
Just as it is important to carefully pass the stick from one person to the next, it is important for us to run the race well and pass the truth we know about God from one generation to another. Share how your parents did (or didn’t) pass the truth to you. Tell them that you want to pass the truth about God and how to live to them.

Pastor Appreciation Month
October is pastor appreciation month. If you have not had a chance to tell and show your pastor how much you appreciate him, take the time to do that this week. Brainstorm ways you can show kindness and love to him. (Give him a gift card to his favorite bookstore, write thank you notes with specific things that each one likes about him, or invite him and his family to dinner—at a restaurant or to your house.)
