Sometimes It's Not as Easy as 1,2,3...
As you are teaching your young child how to tie his/her shoes or how to count to 10, tell them about your experience with that same skill. Tell them how difficult you thought it was when you first learned to tie your shoes or learned to read or ride a bike. Assue them they will learn to do it (and probably do it well) IF they keep trying and don't quite.
God is pleased when you endure - when you keep doing what you are suppose to keep doing.
Ask: What are some things you should keep doing? (praying, helping, sharing, loving others, etc.)
Quitting is for Quiters!
When you are watching a sports show on TV ask:
How do you think he or she got to be so good? (practice!)
Do you think they always wanted to practice? (no, but they did it anyhow)
Michael Phelps trains 5 hours a day in the pool. Then he spends more times at the gym weight trainging. It takes a lot of practice to get good at something - and not quitting.
What Can Help You Stay With a Job Until It's Done?
Give your children a job to do - clean the family room, pick up trash in the yard, organize the bookshelf, etc.
When it is completed, celebrate together with a treat - ice cream, cookies and milk, etc.
Ask:
How did you felt when the job was announced? How did you feel when the job was done?
What do you have trouble finishing? (chore, game, homework, cleaning room, yard work, ect.)
Why? (it's too hard, it takes too long, I don't know how, etc.)
What can help you stay with a job until it's done? (knowing that it is the right thing to do, knowing that you will please your parent or teacher, knowing that God will reward you, etc.)
Read Matthew 16:27 (For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.)
