I Am...
Tell everyone at breakfast to bring any object to dinner in a bag or pillow case. (No clues about what they will do with it.)
After dinner, ask each person to describe what is in their bag using "I am" statements. (I am green, I am round, I am soft, etc.) The other members of the family must guess their object.
After all items have been revealed, ask:
How did the statements help you know what was in the bag? (They gave us clues about what the object was like; they helped us know more about the object, etc.)
How did Jesus' words tell more about Him? (They described what He is like.)
Read the following list of "I am" statements of Jesus and pick one or two to discuss how they tell us something very unique about Him. Jesus was unlike any other person who ever lived—He was the God/man!
I am the bread of life (John 6:35).
I am the light of the world (John 8:12).
I am the door (John 10:7,9).
I am the good shepherd (John 10:11, 14, 51).
I am the resurrection and the life (John 11:25).
I am the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).
I am the vine (John 15:5).

What Do You Think Jesus Looked Like?
Pass out pieces of paper and ask the kids to draw a picture of what they think Jesus might have looked like. After they share their pictures, tell them no one knows for sure what He looks like because there were no pictures of Him. But there are many things recorded in the Bible that describe Him. (He was kind to children. He loved and helped people. He fed people when they were hungry. He washed their feet. He cooked them breakfast. He gave us His own life for them.)
Ask children to choose one thing that is recorded about Jesus and write it on their paper as a prayer of thanks. (Thank you for being kind to children. Thank you for loving people.)

Your Assignment
Tell your child that you have an assignment for him. (Make a star or make it snow or stop the rain.) When he tells you that he can't do that, ask why.
These are things that only God can do. Jesus is God and has all-power. The Bible says, " The things which are impossible with men are possible with God" (Luke 18:27).
